Kiwi Friday!
As some of may know (in case you've seen this post of mine in the past Ever Seen How Kiwis Are Picked?), my family owns a kiwi farm. The fruit is picked in October but during the summer there are lots of things to be done to make sure the harvest will be... fruitful! Regular watering is mandatory and so is pruning those extra branches that suck off the valuable nutrients.
Other than the extra branches, there is also the extra fruit, the unhealthy, the undeveloped that absorb nutrients from the tree not allowing for the the healthy fruit to grow bigger. This means we need to remove those "juice suckers" while there is still time for the healthy fruit to grow.
And this is what my father, sister and I did today (and a couple of more days to come).
It's not an easy task. For hours you need to look up, searching for bad guys that may be hiding among the green leaves and when you do find them, you need to cut them off. My neck hurts, I got a headache because of the uncomfortable position and it seems like my neck issues will follow me for the rest of my life.
But I must not complain.
My father is the one who does all the hard work all year round and my sister and I are the occasional helpers.
After all, these trees bring the money for the food on our table and we should be grateful for that!
And look at the random findings that make you laugh every once in a while and forget how much you'd wish to be sleeping in a hammock under a pineapple tree somewhere on an exotic island...
Oh, did I show you the pretty surroundings?
Our trees are next to a stream which runs dry in the summer, but it lies under the shade of some tall, old plane trees!
And we also have some walnut trees around, look!
I shall be sinking in my couch munching on some strawberries now...
How about you?
Thank you so much for your time!
Until my next post,
Steem on and keep smiling, people!
