The war ends with Putin dead or in a cell in Den Hague.
I had the idea that the proper deterrent for this war was to send Putin a Map with a 50 mile circle around ALL of his palaces and the current locations of his yachts, and the message: in a nuclear war, would you rather depend on Russian anti-missiles or US anti-missiles?
Putin has tied his reign to this war, it was his plan of legacy since he reached the ceiling in Russia expansion of Empire was the only way to keep moving forward - and his populace facing the declining status quo was not a recipe for "Dictator for Life". The Russian kleptocracy was based on mining, mostly fossil fuels, and in that direction is global heat death.
His legacy assets were Soviet Era weapons, from tanks and artillery to nuclear armed ICBMs. His opportunity was on his borders. He borders Finland, but they had resisted Stalin very effectively. He borders Norway, but that is impassable to an invasion of heavy armor. He borders Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland through his Belorussian puppet, but they all joined NATO, had more modern armies, and were bristling with missiles 15 minutes' flight from Moscow.
He can't unwind his propaganda about the 'Special Military Operation', and can't keep a lid on it until he has a full national sham referendum in Ukraine. He is losing, and will continue to lose the war.
This was a predictable outcome, but all Russians who could tell Putin the truth where killed, jailed, or marginalized. The only way to communicate with an isolated, delusional, narcissistic ex-KGB THUG is to threaten his personal assets.
We are ok with both scenarios.
