Some words about reading

in #russia5 years ago

Today I learned a new English phrase: "You are a big reader!"
Well... in Russian language there is no exact match. In Russian, we could say: "You've read a lot" or "You've read so much!" (or - "too much, close your book and go to fitness, right now!")

But in Russia no one tells something like "You are a big reader", "ты - большой читатель". Russian people just can't understand that phrase.

OK, about books. I always loved to read American science fiction more, than Russian classic literatire) Zelazny, Dick, Simak, Heinlein - their books are more interesting for me, that Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Chekhov)
I've read "Amber's Chronicles", "Valis", "Albemuth Radio Free" and "Puppet masters" with pleasure. I think, it's great - when the book takes the reader away from reality. I read to distract from my daily routine.
It is not interesting - to open a book and read in it about the same routine that surrounds you.

And what do you think?
