Today is the anniversary of the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

Today in Ukraine is the Day of Remembrance of the Heavenly Hundred to honor the protesters that were killed by Yanukovych's Berkut during the Maidan protests. But it is also the anniversary of the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

On this day, Russian "little green men" lacking insignia and identification began coming into Crimea. In a week Russian special forces would take over the Crimean parliament and hold the parliament hostage while they dissolved the government and put a pro-Russian individual in charge. Shortly thereafter Russia took control of the entire peninsula. A faux referendum on annexation would occur in March under Russian military occupation.
