It sounds like you have an excellent plan. Keep in mind that many people walk and run, and even just walk, 5K "races." I am not sure if that is part of your goal (to actually complete an official race). You can probably guess I put more stake in the practical aspects, like being able to run the 2 kilometers to your sister's village. I did my first continuous 5k of late yesterday, and its a really good reminder of what it feels like for a beginner!
I'm not sure about racing, but these things have a way of taking over! I was out for a walk-run today and increased the running time a little with, so far, no ill effects. I met my neighbour coming home, she has arthritis in both hips and is waiting for hip replacement surgery, sometimes I feel very lucky. Good you were able to run 5k, you must be feeling better.
