Ultimately that is one of the beautiful things about running--we run for ourselves. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about our crazy ideas or goals as long as we are following our own desires! I love the idea of challenging yourself to celebrate a big milestone in life. I also love that quote. One of my older clients has used that one before, and it is so true. He's in his 70's, but has the attitude of a much younger man (in the best way possible).
