The silliness continues with the Hash House Harriers in Chiang Mai

One of the main things that I appreciate about the Hash House Harriers is that the members are the opposite of serious. There have only been a couple of times in the entire time that I have been involved that any serious something or other happened and it was an argument between two members. It got sorted out but it is so rare that the people who were there got really quiet and nobody really knew what to do. Then the guy who was the origin of the problem was asked to take a break from the Hash for a month and not come back until he can take jokes in stride. He didn't ever return and I think that was best for everyone involved.

We are a silly bunch and honestly, life is so serious and difficult for a lot of people I really feel as though it is kind of nice to just let loose and act foolish for a couple of hours a week. We revel in this and truly enjoy it. It is something I genuinely look forward to and some of the people in the Hash are so good at being funny that I believe some of them could be comedians if they wanted to.

A few of our members can be counted on to bring the laughs week after week and "Skidmark" is one of them. He is a father, a successful business man who is now retired, and a husband. There is plenty of actual "serious" in his life but he brings none of that to the table in the HHH. We appreciate him exactly for this reason.

There is very little in the way of drama with the Hash House Harriers even when we are discussing financial aspects of the Hash. We are not here to make money but we do need to cover our expenses. So I guess we get a teensy bit serious about that but only for a few minutes and then we move back to being as ridiculous as possible.

If you need a bit more silly in your life the Hash House Harriers might be the right place for you. Not everyone is an extrovert though and that is also fine. You only need to have a sense of humor about you, it doesn't mean that you need to be the center of attention...we have plenty of foolish people here that are more than happy to take on that role.

We are still doing 3 runs per week though and all of them are followed by drinking and merriment as well as a lot of jokes being told at the expense of others. If you feel shy at first that is perfectly fine, but maybe after a while you will learn to come out of your shell a little bit and participate in the shenanigans that we get up to on a regular basis.

It's a ton of fun and after you get back home you can return to your serious life if that is what you really want to do. But for a few hours 3 times a week if you want to be a kid again, that is basically what we specialize in. Maybe see you there?
