Hashing: It's all about beer, running, and fun
There aren't very many of us in our local Hash that would be considered to be in terribly good shape. I would say it is quite the opposite actually but it does help to put a little bit of balance into our lives. We are "drinkers with a running problem" and not the other way around but if it weren't for the Hash House Harriers I am quite certain that a lot of us would probably just be full time alcoholics.
We do love drinking beer and we do love getting together and our little outings probably help quite a bit to keep us from dying early deaths since running / walking / hiking a 5-6 km trail run 3 times a week is probably a lot more exercise than most people get, certainly when you consider the average age of the people in our group is probably late 50's / early 60's.
I don't think that most of us consider running to be "fun" and we likely wouldn't do it if we were on our own. I know that I rarely do and that is what makes this lockdown of our right now all the more difficult. We are all probably getting out of shape and I know that most of us probably aren't getting any exercise at all because we don't actually really enjoy running, or exercise for that matter.
I think that if it weren't for the Hash in Chiang Mai that a good 90% of our crew probably would never exercise, so that is a really powerful reason for the Hash to exist in my mind, and why i am really grateful that it is here. I will participate in it for as long as I can.
At the moment I am probably still considered a FRB (Front Running Bastard) but my day will come as I shrink further and further from the front and when that day comes, it will be just fine.
