Bus breakdown results in us roughing it with travel

When you live in Thailand as long as I have you will sometimes be sitting somewhere and notice a work truck of some sort going down the road with all the workers standing in the back of it. Normally you feel really bad for whoever is crammed in the back of that thing and thank your lucky stars that you don't have to do that for a living.

Well recently we found ourselves in a situation where we had no choice but to do the same for ourselves when one of our busses broke down and we couldn't find any other mode of transportation with such late notice.

I'd like to say that it was fun being back there with a bunch of friends but it definitely was not. Eventually we tried to all sit down but the driver of the vehicle wasn't being very accommodating as far as us not having anything to grab onto was concerned. There was plenty of humorous situations where someone would go rolling into someone else. Eventually, by the time we got to where we were going we realized why the workers are always standing in the back of these things as they go down the road :)

Of course this bus breakdown happened on a day that we had a much higher level of turnout than we have grown accustomed to for the past few years. It's a rule I guess that this will happen when you need it not to the most. Nobody really complained and by the time the run was over another vehicle that was more conducive to people actually traveling in had been brought along while we were on our run.

The weather was cool and dry and the pollution was not out of control like it can be this time of year. So overall, the tradeoff of the temporary ride in the workers' truck really wasn't that bad. Now everyone has a story to tell I guess and nobody got hurt so it is a win/win.

If there is anything to be learned from this experience it is that being a member of the Hash House Harriers is going to have its ups and downs and the members need to be willing to roll with it, so to speak. There actually is a lot of planning that goes into these events and any one of them can go terribly wrong. It all ends up working out in the end for the most part!
