Beer-stops on the runs (no, the beer isn't stopping!)

in #runninglast year

These are actually quite rare in the Chiang Mai Hash and all the other places I have been Hashing around the world. A beer stop is somewhere in the middle of the run where you will get a drink served to you at a halfway point or something. The really long runs such as the annual Ballbreaker, you can expect 2-3 of these.

While it is optional to have the beer when you are there, it is frowned upon to not have it unless you are one of our few members that doesn't drink at all.

The reason why they are so rare here in Chiang Mai is because most of our trails are off road and getting beverages to some of the points can be quite complicated if not impossible. On other runs we will briefly run over a road and this is where beer checks or beer stops are more likely to happen.

We are all about health on the Hash so why not have a beer in the middle of exercise? In many of these situations we will also have water available for the health nuts who actually concern themselves with things like hydration and water loss from sweating.

In the end it is all about having fun and not a great deal more. The beer checks or beer stops are rare but the Hares (the people who design the trail) always get some extra points for including a beer stop or two.

We are still doing 3 runs a week and plan to do so into the foreseeable future. Come and join us if you find yourself in the Chiang Mai area of Thailand!
