A run that started and finished at a jungle pub

in #running2 months ago

Most of our events start at a random area which is just the middle of nowhere or a parking lot for a temple. This can be problematic if there is any rain because if it rains, we are just going to be a bunch of people that are standing in the rain. Because there was rain forecast for this past Thursday, we adjusted the schedule to have a start and finish at a pub that had cover as well as an indoors area if we needed it. We will always do the circle with the giant ice blocks outdoors of course, but it was nice to have this as an option to get out of the rain if we needed to.

We wouldn't just do this with any old pub, but this place is owned by one of our local members so we also like to support establishments that are part of our organization. Being this close to the pub meant we were close to refrigerators as well and this saves us a bunch of time as far as transporting beer is concerned.

It works like this: We all go and eat at your pub and in exchange you allow us to drink the cheap beer that we brought with us. Every pub owner that is part of our organization is aware of this and are happy to allow this trade off.

It did rain a bit but wasn't as big of a problem that we thought it might be and the only real problem with this being our start and finish point is that the area is quite urban and this is contrary to what we would normally like to do. When we do our runs in these street-covered areas it is difficult to get any real circle checks done because all the property other than a temple that is nearby is private property with gates and fences. Therefore it is no real mystery where the trail is going to go and also, cars and motorbikes tend to wipe out our circle checks anyway.

The upside of this location is that it was significantly closer to the city center and therefore the long bus journey wasn't something anyone had to worry about. For once, most of the attendees just walked here from where they stay or drove here if they don't drink alcohol. We still have and always will have, a strict no drink driving rule for all of our members. It would be disastrous to our image if someone were to crash while driving drunk and well, drink-diving isn't cool anyway.

It was a good day and for the most part the rain stayed off of us. Being able to clean up a bit was a nice added touch because when we are out in the jungle we don't even have running water, let alone soap or something like that. I think I speak for almost everyone when I say that we would all still prefer to be running in the jungle though because dodging cars on your run isn't a lot of fun.

We are still doing 3 runs per week and you can get the full details HERE. Almost all of our runs take place in nature, this was just an exception that was made last minute because of the threat of rain.
