A change of GM for the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers

in #runninglast year

Just so you know "GM" stands for General Manager and it is more of a ceremonial role than one that actually requires any sort of additional work. It also pays nothing so there isn't much incentive to even do it. Yet there are tons of people that aspire to hold this position and it is voted on annually by all members. We had to say goodbye to "Suckit" after a year of service and his tenure was actually a difficult one since during some of it we were still dealing with the remnants of Covid restrictions.

For his service in this year he will be awarded absolutely nothing, just like all the GM's that have come before. It is just a sign of how much the effort he has put in means to us. Don't worry Suckit, nobody else gets anything either.

At the retirement of the old and the bringing in of the new GM we make sure to be extra mean to both of them and this incorporates an unusually high amount of time spent on the ice. To anyone that is in the Hash House Harriers this shouldn't come as any sort of a surprise.

Plenty of regalia and plenty of "On On" songs, as well as plenty of suds were exchanged during this passing of the torch from "Suckit" to "Joint Master Ting Tong" who takes over as GM starting next week. He, like all the others that have come before, will receive absolutely nothing for his service other than additional grief and criticism. What an honor!

In his final run Suckit arranged what he told us was going to be a 7k Rambo run (for the hardcore) as well as a much shorter Wimp run for the weak. It was almost as if he was giving us one last middle finger because the Rambo trail was more like 11k and he thought this was very funny. At least he had the good nature to arrange plenty of beer stops along the way so that everyone could stay hydrated with lager.

In the end it was a good year for Suckit and we wish all the bad luck possible for Joint Master Ting Tong in his future mismanagement of the Hash House Harriers in Chiang Mai. Here's to the On On possibilities of 2023 and 2024.

We are still doing at least 3 runs per week every week despite the pollution that is currently plaguing our city. If you are in the are and would like to join us you can find out full details on our official website
