Back from the bite #RunForSteem

in #runforsteem6 years ago

After a busy weekend I had a lovely run today, for a variety of reasons.

Firstly, I always love my long slow runs - it's a real chance to relax and let your mind wander. It's even more enjoyable where I'm not training for a half or full marathon; they don't need to be quite as long so you can fit them in more easily around your life.

Secondly, I spent the first half of the run with my wife and we didn't have an argument! I find it much more challenging to coach the person I live and love with as we know exactly what buttons to press to annoy each other.

I don't normally run with my wife as it is usually detrimental for her - she runs much better with other club mates or on her own but today's run had more riding on it.

A week ago my wife went for an afternoon run, after watching me at the XC race in the morning, only to have to abort after 15 minutes due to being attacked by a dog in our local park.

Fortunately, what looked like a nasty wound has healed well but the bruising and muscle soreness has been bad and hung around. She didn't run on Tuesday and had to abort her Thursday run as it was too painful. She skipped yesterday's parkrun with a hope of being able to run today.

She ran a really strong consistent pain-free 5k and we also ran past where the bite happened, along with encountering a number of dogs. She responded really positively and finished with confidence again.

I then continued for another 5k at low heart rate to clock a total 65 minutes of aerobic work - here's a link to the stats: https://www.strava.com/activities/1402822947.

Good job! Nice to have a partner

Glad to hear your wife is improving.

it can be a scary thing to get past, but once her confidence is back, there will be no stopping her. ;-)

Indeed - she smashed out a 5k PB yesterday so definitely back on it!
