Rugby - Lions, the End of an Era
What a season the Lions had in 2017.
Ending on top of the overall log and securing a home final infront of a sell-out crowd at an historic stadium.
The result, a harsh red card to Kwagga and a disapointed end to a mountain of hype.
I was priviliged enough to make the final. 62000 fans made the experience amazing.
The disapointment of losing to a team with the most successful record in Super Rugby history is bitter sweet.
The man who coached the lions team out of being relegated to finalists 2 years in a row. Johan Ackerman "Coach Ackers" who played 13 times for the springboks, but i think he will be more remembered for his influence on the Lions team.
He, like many talented South Africans, will be expediting his talent at an English club, Gloucester. Recently announced, that his son, Ruan will be joining him as a loose forward.
Ruan, is one of the many talents to leave the Lions fold.
@ovadose - As a fellow South African it was extremely disappointing to see the Loins lose on Saturday. Peyper is very questionable as a top flight referee. With the Ackermans moving abroad this leaves a huge gap in South African rugby.. The call on Kwagga was harsh however within the rules however referees in this situation should use discretion. Hope you do not hate my post because I am a Sharks fan - lol. Looking forward to the tests coming up. There again more Lions players deserved to make the team. I look further to your future posts.

I think it was truly disappointing to all South Africans, whether lions fans or not.
I do believe that the red card can be very debatable. My thoughts are that red cards should not be allowed for accidental penalties. (Especially in a final)
62000 people did not pay to watch a 15 vs 14 game.
I think the card played a role in the result. Even the New Zealanders would agree.
