Day 20; Which game mechanic inspires you the most?

Combat, hands down. I actually look forward to fighting when I'm playing because of all the ways I can plan and do things. Sometimes they fail based on the luck of the dice, but that's also something I have to plan for so it's just life.

Most recently I picked up a Saturday morning game with some friends and my character is an alchemist homebrew class with a specialty in bombs. I'm having fun planning her combat because she has to be in just the right place to throw things and do maximum damage, or since she can still create a very basic poison because she's an alchemist I've had to plan around things like getting her some gloves with claws built in so she can use those instead of her own nails to coat in poison for the sake of combat.

Watching my players do combat is interesting as well. Some rush in even when they know their characters shouldn't, some get themselves surrounded and only have ranged attacks which would be at disadvantage at such a point-blank range but they can't run or else they invoke the attack of opportunity unless they want to take their full action to disengage (except rogues, but every rogue I've ever dealt with never lets themselves get in that position).

For every class you have to plan, and that's what inspires me. Sure outside of combat everyone has their uses, my bard is better suited to try and haggle with a shopkeeper than a barbarian and all, but that's just life and people in general to me. Combat is where things can really stand out and planning is key and I love it so much <3
