Thank you for this post. You might like the bots or not - but you got to hate the ones that are not transparent of what they do. Its about time that something is done.
Long term I think the bots are bad for the reputation of Steemit as a blogging platform. They don't necessarily hurt the block-chain... but they definitely help to funnel all of the vests, sbds, and steem to major holders and those that have learned to game the bots.
