'THE COURAGE TO BE VULNERABLE' shows an overview of drawings by Romaan Namoor (between 2010 and 2017) and covers the following series;

PROEM

In times were we only can show strength and perseverance to battle, always have to be positive constructive and solution-oriented in life, we forget there's also a lot of strength from vulnerability.
But admittedly, give in to your vulnerability requires an incredible amount of courage. It is the courage to face your flaws, when you embrace powerlessness, disposition and fetishes surveys. It's at the point were you accept and lose the fear tendencies to fail.
At the same time, if we have the courage to look at it, there are many learning points which we can refine ourselves with. Because essentially it is nothing more than being human and excepting yourself.
So
Be strong
Dare to accept

All the way you are

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The works of this exhibition all departs from personal situations and contexts of the artist, searching for universal pictures, in order to tease the viewers to their own experiences. On neutral territory, without any value judgment.
'The courage to be vulnerable' teetering on the contradiction of raw jagged and soft velvet. It shows the deepest emotion from the darkest caverns of our being and at the same time it shows understanding, comfort and acceptance. At the intersection of hard reality and 'Romaance'.

The way to have full profit from vulnerability, you have to learn the hard way. With an indestructible conviction to persistence. So... it's better to visualise it, the same kind of journey like the road to Ithaca or a pilgrimage to Compostela, where the voyage is more important than arriving at your destination.
A fact that's also extended to the exhibition where the artist shows more the process to vulnerability, than vulnerability itself.

The constructed images are built from the collage technique. As if it literally shreds life itself, torn and pasted together. Very direct, without any filters.
And so does his drawing style, where it's about the direct expression of emotion than the masterful skills of drawing.

In short: What you feel is what you get!

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Romaan Namoor aka Chris Van Wassenhove graduated from the Hogeschool voor Kunsten Utrecht (Netherlands), specialized in intermedia, where collage was the main focus. In his current work he grabs back to his first love: drawing, which he always combines with his collage work.
Namoors work is a testimony to the deepest emotions of a gloomy world. As fragmentary memories, where you're searching for what you do not find and find what you didn't look for.

POST SCRIPTUM
After the exhibition all artworks will be posted in an overview + a video tour through the exhibition will be uploaded on youtube. But for now, the main things is to stimulate curiosity and to bring as many people as possible into motion who are interested.
