RockHounding with the Hounds

This weekend past...

@caitycat and I managed to convince ourselves to get up early enough to see the fog drift off the beach at Dallas Road. Half excited to soak up some sun, half excited to go track down a coffee, we got our shit together, and started walking to the beach with the dogs.

After we shook the morning fog out of our own heads, we realized it was a beautiful morning and started getting a bit more energetic. It didn't hurt that the dogs picked up on where we were going and decided to get a bit excited themselves. It's always a good time at Dallas Road -- and on a beautiful Saturday morning, there's usually plenty of other dogs for the boys to play with!

What started as a "oh lets just take the boys for a quick walk" started shifting into about two and a half hours at the park, doing a fair bit of beach-combing to see if we can't find any cool stones. @caitycat has been talking about exploring the world of jewelry making -- which is super cool. She could probably make some pretty rad stuff. She ended up finding some pretty cool stones to bring home, so now I have to work on getting the ball-mill / rock-tumbler working again (I used to tinker around with gunpowder and fireworks back in the day) so she can turn the rough rocks into something pretty.

There's a bit of a vibe / feeling in the air around here of "oh... so... summer's over then? That sucks...". But I would disagree. It has been so dry around here that I, for one, am a bit excited for the shift in seasons. The wetter weather has come back, and the grasses are starting to recover. For almost 4 months straight, we had nothing but crunchy, pale, sad grass -- and now the green is starting to come back. I can always tell when everything is coming back to life, because the dogs absoloutely love the nice grasses. They run through the tall grass and chomp the water beads as they go!

So here's to the next trip to the beach, where we can hopefully find some more cool stones!
