Another Mystery Rock Waiting for YOU to Identify it! Please Help
Hello steemit! I have found another treasure sitting, waiting quietly. It is another tumbled stone, purchased at least two decades ago from Mount Rushmore, South Dakota. It turned up on the soil of a household potted plant.
I asked a friend who knows more than me in the subject and she hypothesized that it might be Jasper. That's the only hunch I have.
Sorry for the quality of the photos but it was the best I could do. Thank you.
Had to go out in my yard and snap some photos to compare from my own collection. Mine look similar. I really like the layers and veins of black running through your rock.
One of my rock specialist friends in bonsai (she builds sets for movie and television to look like rock/stone) was saying mine were jasper, as I recall.
From top to bottom, most similar to less similar.
Same rock, reverse side.
Same rock, reverse side.
I also have a few that look like a dull red leather, even when polished. The red resembles your rock a bit more, bit it does not have the sedimentary layers or the richness of color.
Try visiting a crystal and rock store, and see what kind of stones they sell to compare.
Nice stones! They do look a bit similar don't they.. I don't know of any crystal shops in my area but I haven't tried looking either. Lately I've been visiting this woman who deals rocks, fossils, and jewelry at the market. Her stand is only one I actually stop at and buy from. Everything else sucks so sometimes I don't even think it's worth going.
Oh and I forgot to ask did you find those yourself?
I bought a wooden box full of a rock collection for $20 at an estate sale. The sellers thought it was junk. Felt like a big score when I got them.
Big estate sale scores are the absolute best!
