Excuse me, would you mind giving a robot a hand? - Designing imperfect social robots
When reading about robots today, it's mostly about new physical skills, impeding job loss in industry (and everywhere else) or the newest ethical dilemmata.
While the technology is progressing, it does so at a steady but slow pace.
Many tasks in industrial settings are still way too complex and in the field of service robotics, the encountered environments are too diverse to generally cover yet.
The idea then, was to have robots and humans work hand in hand, each performing the tasks they are best suited to.
Both human and robot can thus encounter situations, where help from the other ist needed or would at least bei of great help. The interesting part is, how interaction between robot and human ist designed to make the encounter a comfortable one.
I plan to make a small series out of this topic. I will cover design aspects, such as robot form and color, language and politeness or navigation.
However, I first wanted to ask around, If this topic strikes a chord with all those interested in robotics here on Steem. Let me hear what you think and feel free to ask, comment or discuss the topic below.
Hrm.. that doesn't seem to trigger anyone :/
