BostonDynamics - The Future

in #robotics7 years ago (edited)

Is anyone here following Boston Dynamics?

They started over 25 years ago but not much was heard until Google bought it in 2013.

Now you can't even know who owns it because officially it's owned by 'X' company which is an "American semi-secret research-and-development facility founded by Google". A lot more can be found online but for the most part a lot of things about these 'projects' are still secret.

Anyways, they own 11 robots or at least that's the official number, probably a lot more exist unofficially. Anyways, I'm not here to talk about hoax or conspiracies but actually about the robots themselves.

One of the most advanced ones (at least in my opinion) would be the 'Atlas'. It has been developed for quite some time now but a month ago BostonDynamics released a new video on Youtube with some updates on 'Atlas'.

Seeing it move with such agility, jumping and flipping over is amazing and scary at the same time. That was never accomplished even tho a lot of companies have tried something similar in the past decade. It's like watching a sci-fi movie but actually it's reality.

I'd mentioned 'BigDog' as well. The balance it has is amazing to say the least. Makes you wonder how you create such algorithms to work in such a complex world as ours.

That video was released a long time ago (in 2010) but you can find other ones on YT on their channel.

There are many other robots from BostonDynamics as well as plenty of other robots which are not so advanced but enough for doing tasks even better than humans. And they are advancing quite fast, possibly faster than humans themselves (despite the fact that humans are advancing them)...

What do you think about them? What is the future holding for us in terms of robotics? Is it going to make our life easier? Will it replace us in terms of jobs and tasks overall from the simplest to the most complex ones?
