The Road Trip To Bangkok
I have mostly been posting about work but I think for today I will recap on a recent road trip I did with my BF. I took a few days off work and we drove up the coast to Ranong then north to Prachuap Kirikhan, then Bangkok. I flew back to Phuket and my BF went motorcycle shopping. He didnt buy anything though but can back with a new bicycle instead haha. We took many nice photos along the way but I want to start with this so lovely photo of my niece at Layan Beach on Phuket Island. This is my favourite beach in Phuket and often there is a baby elephant there to pose with tourists at sunset. We kind of started our holiday here even though it's close to home. Sunset drinks with my brother and his kids.
Ranong is 300km north of Phuket and is on the Burma border. Its kind of a cool town with not much for tourists but I like it because its very authentic. They still have these cool motorcycle tuktuks which are less and less around Thailand.
From there we drove straight up to Prachuap Kirikhan. This is the province south of Bangkok on the west coast that is best known for Hua Hin the tourist resort where our royal family often spend time. We have a friend there that owns a wildlife refuge. He rescues wild animals from the pet and tourism trade and gives them a beautiful home. We stayed one night there. I couldn't believe just how many rescued animals he had there but my favourite were the elephants. He has built a small lodge on the grounds to help generate funds for the refuge and we were happy to stay there looking out over the elephant enclosure.
After that we went to Bangkok. My BF wanted to look at some old cars that he knows one guy was selling from his home in Bangkok and then another guy that had an old motorcycle for sale. I don't know why he is so obsessed with old cars and bikes LOL. But anyway i have to admit the cars were cool but just too expensive - I loved the VW bug but my BF liked the Mercedes of course.
The motorcycle was very special but sadly it doesn't have any paperwork so impossible to register and insure which means you have to be very careful driving it on the road - the police will take it off you if they catch you.
Dinner and drinks that night on the roof top of a pretty nice hotel right in the downtown. I'm always torn in Bangkok between enjoying these glamorous bars and restaurants high up on the rooftops of expensive hotels or getting delicious street food and street drinks with all the hustle and bustle of Bangkok at road level.
So That was my little 4 day break from work. But now it's back to work. My brother has been working hard on this villa renovation and I think next post will be a story of how that project is progressing. Hope to see some of you over there! thanks for reading and may everyone have a lovely weekend!
