Introduction

With this article I want to shed some light on the use of tobacco by the shamans of Tuva. The information comes from the book "Tuvinian Shamans" by Kenin Lopsan, the living monument of the shamans. I was able to meet with him several times and he gave me this freshly printed book from 2009 with a dedication.

Ich will mit diesem Artikel ein wenig Licht in den Gebrauch von Tabak bei den Schamanen von Tuva bringen. Die Informationen stammen aus dem Buch "Tuvinische Schamanen" von Kenin Lopsan, dem lebenden Denkmal der Schamanen. Ich konnte mit ihm mehrere Male zusammentreffen und er hat mir dieses druckfrische Buch von 2009 mit einer Widmung geschenkt.

The Shaman Ritual - Invocation of Tobacco

The scientific literature did not take into account the attitude of Tuvinian shamans to smoking tobacco. Traditions indicate that in Tuva tobacco was made from various herbs, as well as smoked tobacco from China and Russia was brought in.

Informant Hertec Toibuhaa said, "I did not see a shaman who did not smoke." Every shaman smoked tobacco. The shaman usually ends his session with an invocation of the tobacco after he has finished the ritual act and begins to smoke.

First, the eldest among the present offers the pipe with smoking tobacco to the shaman, then, according to the instructions of the shaman, the whistle is offered to everyone present in the course of the sun. From childhood to old everyone suck the shaman pipe.

Das Schamanenritual - Anrufung des Tabaks

In der wissenschaftlichen Literatur wurde die Einstellung der Schamanen Tuvas zum Rauchen von Tabak nicht berücksichtigt. Überlieferungen besagen, daß in Tuva Tabak aus verschiedenen Kräutern hergestellt wurde, sowie geräucherter Tabak der aus China und Russland gebracht wurde.

Der Informant Hertec Toibuhaa sagte: "Ich habe keinen Schamanen gesehen, der nicht geraucht hat." Jeder Schamane rauchte Tabak. Der Schamane beendet seine Sitzung in der Regel mit einer Anrufung des Tabaks, nachdem er die rituelle Handlung beendet hat und fängt an zu rauchen.

Zunächst bietet der Älteste unter den Anwesenden dem Schamanen die Pfeife mit Rauchtabak an, dann wird nach Anweisung des Schamanen im Lauf der Sonne jedem Anwesenden die Pfeife dargeboten. Von klein bis alt macht jeder einen Zug aus der Schamanenpfeife.

Epilogue

Specifically, the shaman performed collective smoking to reassure the patient, create a serene atmosphere in the yurt, and publicly equate himself to the blacks with whom he distributed his last smoking tobacco as a good gesture. Behind the smoke of this tobacco, however, hides the desire of the shaman to return to this yurt.

Der Schamane führte speziell das kollektive Rauchen durch, um den Patienten zu beruhigen, eine ruhige Atmosphäre in der Jurte zu schaffen und sich öffentlich den Schwarzen, denen er seinen letzten Rauchtabak verteilte, gleichzusetzen, als eine gute Geste.
