The Right to Win in the Market.

The market is getting very saturated with competitors these days. It was not like before that all you need to do is to do some marketing that you are offering so and so product/service and customers will walk right into your doorstep. Now we need to involved with SEO, influencers, videos etc. There are so many things to do now. Sometimes, have we ever wondered whether we are lost?

It all boils down to "The Right to Win" in the market.

What gives us the right to win? There are many answers to that question, but here is a story that may give us a glimpse of that.

Rob Hackett works in an operating theatre. Everyone wears the same outfit, which makes it difficult to coordinate procedures on the go. Every second is precious, and those seconds should not be wasted on identifying the right person to ask for a tool/action done. More so when doctors work in multiple hospitals, they are less likely to remember the surgical team by name or profession. This can lead to mistakes and loss of life.

So his solution was to wear a cap with his name and profession on it. His solution won the "market" and is now spreading like wildfire.



What this teaches us is that to win the market, it all begins with how well we understand the situation that the customer is in. It begins by looking from the customer's eyes, and not from our eyes as the solution provider. We often make that mistake by asking "What can we do to serve this market?", which leads to the action of doing surveys and asking the target market what they want. The issue with approach is that what they can tell us is totally based on how we ask the questions. Since we are bias when framing the questions, we were not able to find out the full picture, which leads us to have less of the right to win the market.

One of the easiest and surest way to understand our customer, is to be the customer. Go out there and experience the situation, Then experience it more times. Even top CEOs of the world practises this once in a while when they had already won the market. So for those who are looking to win the market, do it more often, and you will come up with creative or innovative solutions that no one came up before, simply because no one else did what you did with the mindset and approach that you have.
