RE: Are We Living in a Rick and Morty Like Simulation?

in #rickandmorty7 years ago

it's all real and don't let anyone tell you different. It's just another way of saying hey none of this really matters and in times like these with massive inequality, injustice, environmental degradation and more... it's the ultimate computer game escapist fantasy.. the universe is billions of years old and at least half of of your atoms came 100million light years across the Galaxies to be you.. respect the reality of actually being here and we might continue to for another few years more.. ( I wrote a post on this about a week or so ago) prompted by Elon Tony Stark Musk's certainty that it is a simulation my conclusion is that Elon does indeed live in his own holographic world but tell that to the starving masses.. It's such a first world arse question really isn't it !?

Sort:

I tend to believe it. Looking at molecules, atoms, and even deeper at quarks and string theory... All of that stuff starts to look and feel like the mathematics and engineering running behind so many of our computer systems today.

Not an arse question at all, the question of how or why we are is an everlasting and interesting one, there is better people than Elon Musk who can speak about the simulation theory.

If you get the theory, you'll understand it isn't provable and definitely does not effect the starving masses, but the how or why we got here doesn't usually feed starving people unless the answer is food. If you look into it, it is very little different than the God theory, it's all just creationism.

sorry dude, that was kind of my point. It's a very first world existential problem.. oh are we just a simulation.. perhaps we are but my point is, if you are asking the question, you are just invoking a creationism which to me is just plainly old fashioned thinking. I'm sure the truth of how we got here and why is much simpler, far more majestic and part of a greater scheme of nature. Arse of a question was the wrong frame.. indulgent western thinking in the face of environmental degradation and wanton consumerism is maybe more apt. If we are living in simulation, no worries. I know there are deep ripples in quantum theory which resemble coding protocols.. At the end of Carl Sagan's Contact, the aliens give humans a riddle.. deep in PI there is a pictogram, a hallmark hidden deep in maths, suggesting it was designed..it's an old idea and I'm sure we'll come up with more exotic ones as our understanding of knowledge expands. It's hilarious to me that before computers & graphics cards were invented, this wasn't really a subject ! I am interested though. hey perhaps our entire universe is just the brain of a really big slug somewhere in a hypergarden on the outskirts of district 42

Agreed that it is a theory that can only be incepted from this time and era of understanding of self, don't drink so much hatorade on a Steemit post about a theory using cartoon characters lol, I mean you can marginalize it all to whatever level you want, but you seem to have thoughts on the subject that could contribute positively is all.

I've never heard the term drink so much hatorade Brilliant !! honestly I'm not what hating anything. The tone is entirely lost in text. I am very interested in all of these ideas. But as you can imagine, after listening to various arguments over and over again in slightly different clothes, I came to (my own & independent) conclusion that the idea that our world and reality is entirely a simulated experience fits very neatly with an extremely pernicious corporate agenda of consume until the last thing is consumed. Pernicious because nobody is actually driving the bus. Anyway it's been an interesting discussion and I hope you don't take my views personally.. it's only opinion and as you say, we'll never know... unless something goes drastically wrong with the hard drives ! so until that point, we can just keep steeming on

I honestly enjoyed reading your views and appreciated your comments so thorough explaining your thoughts.

thanks @cryplectibles, here's to drinking the milkshake of appreciation into the small hours !
