Hope died last week - has the hope of her species gone with her? - warning graphic content
Hope - a white rhino cow - was brutally attacked in April 2015 and left for dead.
After having a portion of her face sawn off by poachers in removing her horn, she survived and vets have been trying to treat her ever since.
Rhino horn is currently sold for more than its weight in gold. Some killing of rhinos is done with automatic weapons and high powered rifles on foot, others are poached using tranquilizer darts from helicopters. In the latter case the horns are often hacked or sawn off with chain saws while the Rhino's are still alive.
Government ministers, vets and others who should be helping to curb this scourge are instead being found to be accomplices, all in the name of a quick buck.
Last week Hope finally succumbed to a bacterial infection of the intestines. Its likely the ongoing trauma and stress made her more susceptible.

I have travelled on many safaris mainly in Kenya and still can't comprehend why anyone would want to hurt and kill these beautiful animals.
Man is the savage fuelled by greed and money. All countries need to get together and outlaw and protect these creatures .
We in America have been propagandized for two generations to think the way we do.
It is not a view held by most of the rest of the world.
You are applying your version of ethics to group that cannot comprehend how you think.
It is already illegal, that is why its called poaching. Doesn't make any difference.
In Hong Kong there is a pier where you can acquire all manner of animal parts, living or dead, if the price is right. Making a law is pretty much stupid, it is a paliative. It is the way you have been trained all your life. It is programming. If laws had any affect, there would be no drug users in The U.S.
What would you do for a million dollars? You only have to work for a few days.
Would you hollow out a baby (living) and stuff it full of gems and try to walk across the border?
Would you build a mineral leaching field in a spot where it could (possibly) break and flood a river?
Would you turn over your best friend(s) to the Feds?
Would you go on a humanitarian mission to help a group of pretty little children "orphans" escape from a storm trashed island?
Would you guard a building, and make sure no one entered it, while a few politician and some "important" people did something... all night long?
It always gets to me when human destroy such beauty! I am sad that she did not make it! :(

Well, human beings on biological grounds. This is what I meant. This species screwing up the Earth.

Yea its horribly sad.
Most Ivory is sold through china and Hawaii. Need to get those laces to stop selling.
China officially put a 1 year ban on selling ivory but it hasn't stopped, ts underground.
Hawaii, not sure their story but they still sell it.

I remember watching her story last year. I was so mad I cried. And then I cried some more for her. I cannot stand the suffering of animals.
