And yes, technically he is loosing money since he will not get any curation rewards for downvotes. With +1 Million Steem a considerable amount for sure.
If that person behind BernieSanders looses money, then he/she must do it in the interest of the growth of the platform. No one should have to lose money in the interest of the growth of the platform because it sends the message that behind the scenes, some people are privately benefiting financially from the overall growth of Steemit. Why else would they do it? Everyone should benefit from the growth of the platform and so the community should be behind down votes like this and not just some private friend of Ned.
I guess this approach is simple and effective, but it depends on good leadership from above.
Actually they are not friends, they hate each other as far as I know.
There are talks to create a new downvoting system that will not use vested power or at least a separarte voting power so that there is no financial disadvantage to downvoting- On the other hand I think that could open the floodgates for flags.
