Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Hi everyone! I'm Thomas and I'm going to talk about the movie "Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom" by J.A. Bayona

First of all, we must know what the movie is about:

Sinopsis

Four years have passed since the Jurassic World luxury amusement park and resort was destroyed by dinosaurs. Isla Nublar is now abandoned by humans, while dinosaurs try to survive on their own in the jungle.
When the sleeping volcano on the island comes back to life, Owen Grady and Claire Dearing will organize a rescue team to save those dinosaurs that have survived the extinction. On his expedition, Owen will try to find Blue, his favorite dinosaur that is still lost in the jungle. Meanwhile, Claire, who has acquired a great respect for these creatures, considers it her mission to save them. Together they will land on an unstable island where lava poses a major threat. Also, the backdrop is the conspiracy that could endanger the entire planet and set it back to an order not seen since prehistoric times.

I would like to make a point in this review that I'm not a big fan of the Jurassic Park saga, yes, I've seen all of your films and some of them I like, others not so much, like any other franchise; I don't know why I wanted to make this a point, but let's start. So to go into them and to give a quick commentary on the film I must say that I liked it a lot, it's a good film, and a good continuation to all the previous films. I must say I wasn't disappointed with the film, it always keeps up the pace, impressive special effects, a great J.A. Bayona direction and... dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs, dinosaurs and more dinosaurs. But, like many films of course that falls elsewhere, weak argument and predictable at many times.

What I did like it

There were many things I liked about this film, as I said before with a quick comment, the direction of J.A. Bayona, and this man's direction is so great! His shots, his pulse and his vision is what really saves this film. Seriously, the touch that it sometimes has of light terror, and small littles suspense's scenes that suit the film very well and combined with the fantastic special effects, give us scenes to frame, for example, the scene where the volcano is exploding and trying to recreate the "extinction" of the dinosaurs, I thought it was a good wink at that moment, and the suspense I was creating with the protagonists was even quite tense; he managed to give that "flavor" of the first film, and that's something to be named and applauded. Despite his short career, this man has a lot to give.

Now let's get into the dinosaur thing, which is definitely why I (and a lot of people, I'm sure) are going to see the movie. And it's that they also deal with this issue quite well, and how it deals with the fact that they are going extinct again is quite good, and the action of these huge creatures was accomplished quite effectively for me.

The theme of the characters, these also work well, but without highlighting so much in the film, at the end of the day most of them who are not the protagonists only serve as bait, although, we do not see this so captured in this film, more forgiveness is forgiven for their secondary characters than in previous installments, in short, the film is less aggressive with them. Owen in his role is pretty good, Claire the same and the new two supporting characters (although they seemed very cliché to me) are also adapted in an entertaining way, something to vary and not give all the prominence to Owen, Claire and the dinosaurs, alternate a little bit then. Chris Pratt work very well with his role, but one detail I would like to mention is the fact that Pratt is getting used to only one type of role. The prequel of this movie I thought this man had alternated a little in his role type, but in this movie you no longer know if it's Star-Lord or Owen, someone funny, adventurous and with a touch of seductive. Of course, at least the character is nice, charismatic and they wear it in a very good way. And with Claire's theme it's always nice to see scenes of Claire not being the "damsel in distress" and to see moments when she shows she's a character and she's totally capable, but without exploiting the fact that "she's a woman", they treat her like a fully capable character, regardless of whether she's a man or a woman, and it's nice that they haven't left for the "actual" (as I said in my review of The Incredibles 2).

What I didn't like it

Really the weakest part of the film as I said before is the plot, we come back to the idea of a rescue, again, (as if we hadn't seen it before, right?) but, uh, innovate now with the theme that it's a rescue BUT to the dinosaurs, but it's still pretty cliché and it's nothing we haven't seen in previous releases. Continuing with this, in the great adventure of the protagonists it turns out that, oh, they betrayed them, because nobody expected it, right?, because of the partner that John Hammond had at his time, which was really a totally predictable twist.

And, speaking of this partner, let's talk about the granddaughter.... the girl is sooo leftover for the movie, yes, they put the subject of human cloning and that would have worked, but the character doesn't really contribute anything; it's totally redundant and only gets Owen and Claire into trouble. The final moment where she decides for the future, was very ambitious, a very dramatic moment but that really doesn't fit me, I don't empathize at any time with the girl and this kind of new character are the ones that I don't like. And the human "villain" is really malfunctioning for, and the title of "villain" is quite large for him and remains just another character, food for the dinosaurs after all. Usually when the "villain" is killed, you say "Good, justice", but with this character, it is so poorly developed that it is not even possible for him to be a "bad guy".

Something I would like to name is a detail, and it is that the film never really specifies how many dinosaurs are saved, at first it seems that they are very reserved, like 10-15 dinosaurs, but in the final scene it seems that they were saved like 50 dinosaurs. I don't know if I didn't quite understand that, but, well, it's a doubt I had.

In conclusion the film is not bad, frenetic action, dinosaurs everywhere, magnificent special effects, and a very high level of direction. At the end of the day the film knows how to play it very well and what it's all about and how to make the most of what the saga of Jurassic Park is, taking advantage of the whole dinosaur theme that is really what we see these films about. Whoever goes to see Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom for being "over Jurassic Park" will not be disappointed, not at all. The tape meets the expectations of all those who have appreciated the franchise since always, no matter how much toy with clichés or its formulaic nature.
