Music Review: EVO - Evidence of Evolution (Music) That Ever Been

Evo formed from a reality show entitled Reincarnation which aired a private television station a few years ago. The event was created to find a vocalist who will fill the band named Evo who has fronted by Adnil (ex.Base Jam), Ronald (ex. Dr. PM), Edwin (ex Dewa 19), Didit (ex.Plastik) and Angga. At that time, Elda Suryani elected as vocalist. eVo itself comes from the word 'evolution', which is defined as 'parad Indonesian rock music'. With diverse musical genres such as rock, electronics, pop, rock 'n roll; eVo finally released their debut album with the same title with their band name, eVo.

Honestly, this is the first time to review local and reviewed albums (apparently) less well-known band for most ordinary people. It is understandable, because Evo is only issued one album only and then no longer heard his echo today. Very unfortunate!

Okay, I'll start reviewing his album. The first track I will review is Prelude which contains only instrumental sounds. Her tone soothed at the beginning until finally the sound of water splashing and strange noises that often sounded like in alien-themed films. Then continue with Aggressive track which is also their debut single. This song is also the theme song of Reincarnation. The feel of rock in this song is so thick combined with Elda's unique voice. Honestly, first listen to Elda's voice, my ears are not used to it, it feels strange to hear her voice that looks like the sound of seiyu in anime. Long enough also until my ears can adapt to Elda's voice. Now I admit that indeed Elda's voice is so unique and very unique. Once heard aja already know if this sound of a Elda Suryani.

Aggressive songs really describe the 'aggressive' attitude of someone in love. Listen to his last lyrics 'Come inside of me' which sounds a bit naughty. This song is very precisely sung when sulky or stress because of love that may not be reciprocated (this is my pure opinion aja) because ngeranya tone ngerock really can as a means to vent resentment by singing as he shouted following Elda style. The video clip itself is really ordinary, but because the shot with shots that move to and fro quickly, especially following the style of prance-jingkrak Elda, even make the video look unique even though it seems made with a low budget. The next track is Too Tired which is a bit more calm. This song that actually makes me fall in love with this band. When I know the song Aggressive, I have not been interested in Evo at all. However, when I heard the song Too Tired, I became fond of this band. At first I liked this song because of the lyrics but after being heard repeatedly, the music sounded very cool in my ears. Perfect !. And again at that time I was very difficult to adapt to Elda's voice.

I'm getting more and more liked with this song because shortly after that experience a story that can be practically similar to the lyrics of the song.

If heard again, this song is actually normal, especially the sound is not too 'wow', it's just because the lyrics are in (for me personally) combined unique sound Elda, make the song He and I became my favorite song in this album.

Track the next Evolution whose lyrics are in English. The shades of rock and electronics are very thick. I myself can not necessarily immediately like this song initially. But once heard repeatedly, even addicted to play it again and again. The lyrics themselves describe the Evo itself. With a tone that feels a bit relaxed in the beginning to the middle, but then stomping hard at the reff that actually makes us want to dance to the rhythm while shaking the body. In fact, not infrequently I like to pretend as if playing guitar like in jamming season when listening to this song. In minute 3:35 sounded a very similar tone to the theme song Mission Impossible. But again I am less able to enjoy this track.

Spacebound is the next track. This song is in English. The music is cool, thick with the rhythm of electronics and rock. It did not take long for me to like this song. The next track is Never Again a softer rhythm. The lyrics themselves are well suited for people who are unaware of the sincere love of their partner but instead turn to others.

Stop is the next track. The lyrics tell the story about the stupidity that has been done but must move on in life. And finally the last track is Stone Head. Like the title, this song tells the story of a man who heads a rock aka stubborn, does not want to listen to other people's talk because he thinks this is the way of life, not the affairs of others. The last two tracks are packed in a thick rock rhythm. Not a typical song that will be easy to love but also not so easy to forget.
