My opinion about Lucy as a science fiction movie

in #review6 years ago (edited)

Yesterday I was watching the film, Lucy. I would say it is conceptually one of the best science fiction films I have watched. The concept of the film is really unique. I mean like it the whole film works on the thing what will we see when we will start using more brain capacity. Maybe you remember now about the film Limitless. But I was a bit pissed of watching that film. The concept is excellent but they made a shitty film out of it.

Plot

In this movie, Lucy is a girl who spent a lot of time partying and going out with a complete stranger. So, her boyfriend whom she knows for seven days force her to deliver a briefcase to a Korean guy. She does that without knowing what is in it. But the Korean guy is a mafia boss. He kills her boyfriend and thinks that in the briefcase, there are some explosive. She tries to explain to him but she was unable. Then he finds out it is a drug of crystal blue color which he wants to smuggle in Europe. So, his mafia group beat her and operate her to put the drug in her stomach so that they can smuggle it. But the interesting thing is this drug is no ordinary drug. It is produced in a tiny amount in a pregnant woman's body and if it is taken in a bigger dose that allows a person to use higher brain capability. But during the time of smuggling it she was kicked by a mafia guy in her stomach as she refused to have sex and the drug in the packet start leaking inside her belly and she starts acting differently as now her brain can use more of its ability. The movie works on what will happen as we will be using more and more of our brain capacity. The slogan of the film is "life was given to us a million years ago and what have we done with it".

Analysis

It is awesome to see how conceptually rich the film is. They talked about the capability of the cells. When it will choose immortality and when it will choose to reproduce. As we will start accessing more and more of our brain capacity we will be able to control our own body, matters around us, electromagnetic waves etc. The fil put a question on what is the purpose of our life or knowledge we achieve through our time. As we live in an environment where cells can reproduce. So, what we are doing for generations passing it on through our genes.

The movie is a great step to show us how interesting life is and what science can do. Especially for the young people, this can be a motivation to pick up science as their major. One thing which bothered me about the film is the idea of unity. Like for example, they showed that we can use anything as unity. For example, if you want to measure 10 kilos, you need to make 1 kilo first as a measure of unity. So, that means something has to be ideal or fixed so that we can measure something else with it and they show only time can be used as unity. That means there is a universal tick-tock around the universe which we physicist have proved that its not. Time is rather relative which is the postulate of Einstein's theory of relativity. So, I guess the writer should have given attention to it. But from a primary level, it was an enjoyable film.

I would give it a 7/10
