Review of Gino's East of Chicago Authentic Cheese Deep Dish Pizza

in #review6 years ago (edited)

Usually, Aldi only sells Mama Cozzi's pizzas, which are tolerable but I prefer either to add toppings and cheese, or get a crust and build my pizza. They had Gino's East Deep Dish Pizza's - Cheese, and Pepperoni, for $5.89, so I decided to give it a try...

As you can see, it has the allergens soy, wheat and dairy. For those of you who are termites, they use cellulose to prevent the cheese from caking, so enjoy! ;) (FYI, grated cheese generally contains cellulose to prevent caking.)

Now, I know you're thinking "Where's the rest of it???" Simple - it's IN MAH TUMMY!!!! MWAHAHAHAAHAAAAA!

Ok, so let's start with the crust. It's about 1 1/3" tall, and almost an inch thick along the outside edges, but the bottom is generally about 1/2" thick. The color is a nice light yellow and it is firm and soft so that you can hold a piece in your hand (the way pizza was meant to be eaten!), and the taste is nice but not exceptional. I'm not a big fan of the outside edge of a pizza crust and this gigantic edge is no exception but, on the bright side it is not burnt nor like a cracker (which I hate).

It takes 40-50 minutes at 375 F to cook, and it is not pre-sliced. The sauce is on top of the mozzarella cheese, which is pretty thick. The sauce is pleasing (I would order more if I went to Gino's East) and the cheese has a nice flavor, too. It's definitely worth the price and, if you like cheese pizza, you should definitely try it! In fact, if you prefer pizza with toppings, get this one and add some!
