The review for a story "The Struggling Actress - Short Story" by @whatageek from @mgaft1

Yeah, to get the first job is always tough, as one becomes the subject of the known catch-22 paradigm, “You cannot get a job without an experience and you cannot get an experience without a job.” Yet, acting is perhaps the most competitive area, especially in the American society predicated on movies and showmanship.

Hollywood is a dirty river where often roles are given not to the most talented, but to those who were able to sell themselves to the upcoming director or producer. It’s funny to admit it but young talented straight men don’t even have this opportunity, as Hollywood doesn’t have that many female directors or producers who will weinstein them.

I think though that “the struggling actress” is rather a background of the story, the place in the sociological landscape where it is set. Yes, the story’s narrative roams about this topic – the difficulties of gaining the first significant acting job. Yet, I think if you were to retell it in a couple of words, it is a story about a caring relationship, about an effort made by one of the partners in the relationship to relief the stress and frustration or everyday life’s challenges. It reminds me of the words from the old Ace of Base song “Two against the world, never apart.”

If you think about it, what the boyfriend did not accomplish anything objectively decisive. He didn’t attain for the protagonist an important connection in the industry, didn’t give her a crucial advice in improving her professional skills, and didn’t invest a large amount of money in the upcoming movie under the condition of his girlfriend securing the role in it.

What he did was made her feel cared for, feel warm and fussy, to elevated her mood, yanked her from a depressive mindset, made her interested in life again.
