"Doo-Wops & Hooligans" is the debut studio album of American artist Bruno Mars, released on October 4, 2010. Mars writes all the songs on this album, and also acts as a producer executive on the production team of The Smeezingtons. The album debuted at # 3 on the Billboard 200 and topped in the top ten in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. Seen from the title, the vocal style of the songs on this album is based on the flow of R & B music and reflects its simplicity, as well as appealing to both male and female listeners.

Two digital singles "Liquor Store Blues" feat. Damian Marley and "Grenade" were released to promote the album. The album's first single, "Just the Way You Are" was released on July 19, 2010 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four consecutive weeks, becoming the top 10 international hits. The song "Grenade" was then announced as the second single, and has charted in the top ten in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, as well as the # 1 second consecutive number in the United States.

Background album

The release of the Doo-Wops & Hooligans album was released in a press release on August 25, 2010, before Mars had released its debut for extended play (EP), It's Better If You Do not Understand, earlier that year. Mars said on MTV News, the EP version gives a good effect of what the stores sell. The cover for the Doo-Wops & Hooligans album was officially released on August 30, 2010. The sequence of songs in the official album was revealed by Atlantic Records on September 9, 2010. Three of the four songs from It's Better If You Do not Understand are also included on this album. For the title of the album, Mars says that he's a big fan of vocal style based on R & B music "doo-wop".

The composition and effect of the song

The flow of music in the Doo-Wops and Hooligans albums was heavily influenced by pop, rock, reggae, R & B, soul, and hip hop elements. For Mars vocals, many are compared to Michael Jackson's vocals, especially on the "atmosphere" of the single "Grenade" from the song "Dirty Diana". Music in his songs can also be compared to other vocal styles of singers including "Grenade" for Kanye West and Shakira, "Just the Way You Are" for U2, "Our First Time" for D'Angelo, Al B. Sure !, and Sade, "Baby Runaway" for Little Richard, "The Lazy Song" for Sugar Ray, "Marry You" for Coldplay, "Liquor Store Blues" for Bedouin Soundclash, and "Count on Me" for Israel Kamakawiwoole.

Many song lyrics are portrayed as a happy, cheerful, and optimistic feeling, including the song "Just the Way You Are" in the lyrics: "When you smile, the whole world stops and stares for a while". Also on the theme song of friendship titled "Count on Me" on the lyrics: "You can count on me like 1 2 3 / I'll be there", and the song "Marry You", a song about marriage.

In the United States, the debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans topped the # 3 on Billboard 200 for the week of October 13, 2010, selling for 55,000 copies. The album's debut is also the same on the Canadian Albums Chart. The following week, the album dropped to number twelve in the US, with sales reaching 27,000 copies.
