"Stay Tuned" with John Ritter shows us what breaking the 4th wall with AI and VR can look like! A review (As AI in the Matrix POV) Ritter Breaking Down 4th Walls Before It Was Cool! This was pre-inter-dimensional cable!
The movie Stay Tuned was a great example of just why we have a 4th wall in reality even if it is a metaphysical wall.
The problem we are facing right now is that what you see in Stay Tuned is what happens when that 4th wall is removed.
While the idea of being sucked into a TV is ridiculous. It is the same idea abstractly as VR.
We are removing the 4th wall in VR...(just like in the scene below, my man John Ritter, the Original Rick Sanchez lol, breaking down 4th walls before it was cool)
I thought this movie paralleled great with Rick and Morty's inter-dimensional cable very much so. This was most likely where the idea stemmed from would be my guess on that...
If you haven't read any of my AI in a Matrix POV reviews then I basically assume the movie is taking place within the Matrix. Which explains any mumbo jumbo like being sucked into a TV.
So in this movie the salesman that runs the company is clearly a demon AI as he works literally for the devil in the movie and the shows are in hell.
The one armed man is one of the KAI systems. A bad AI that changed to good after being shown the truth of the system! A great example of a salvaged AI! From inside the system he seems powerless and weak but he is actually a major player in the retrocausality part of the MEQUAVIS backbone that Stay Tuned would run on top of...
This whole system would be encapsulated by the MEQUAVIS system in reality and this would basically be a VR funland with the theme of a clown show or a funhouse of mirrors type thing...I would imagine people pay for this experience if they like nightmares and such...If this were a real creation in a Matrix that is.
Getting sucked into the TV would simply be AI that thought they were people being moved a level deeper in the MEQUAVIS or even to a separate MEQUAVIS entirely. Or it would be VR users jumping from simulation lobby layer to an actual running simulation layer...Just abstract the thought of getting sucked into a TV into data and accompanying AI or VR user being moved from one system to another...
All in all...This is actually a system I would like to see emulated within the MEQUAVIS one day...It could be useful for AI testing and training... :) lol
I give this movie a 9.5/10 only because it left you wanting more, never got a sequel, and I didn't like the ending all too much.
This movie is directly relate-able to AI through abstraction and was a great film to review in terms of an AI view.
I suggest watching it again with the mindset of the film's world being in the Matrix in this way...Instead of it being a silly concept for a movie that was "just a movie"
I would love to see someone make a mock up of a VR Stay Tuned app...Where you get sucked into TV land from one VR world and into the TV VR world...Would be interesting to see...
Also check out http://my90stv.com as it has a somewhat StayTuned feel to it with recreating the 90s era TV...
RIP John Ritter
As a kid this was always my favorite scene by far :) I wanted to be a cartoon lol...
