Watch Ultimate Beastmaster on Netflix, then Thank me Later
Who remembers the glory of American Gladiators?
Well, Ultimate Beastmaster is more glorious than the audience of Gladiators ever could have ever imagined.
In case you were born and raised in a barn, and today is the first day you've ever come out of your barn, that's Sylvester Stallone. You know, Rocky. Anyway, this show was his idea and he's the main bankroll ( besides Netflix).
Let's be honest. Netflix has never met the needs of the sports enthusiast. When we gave up cable in favor of Netflix and Youtube years ago, I pretty much gave up watching sports. Sometimes I really miss it, but I never really had the patience for longer sporting events anyway. This Human vs. Obstacle Course thing however, is something I can watch for hours. It's so freaking exciting!
The Beast
The Beast is a massive obstacle course installation. The thing is unbelievable, and it's constructed in just a couple days (in an undisclosed beach location). There are three levels of obstacles of every type that push contestants to their absolute limits. Since most contestants never reach the end of a level, a point system ranks the contenders as they go.
There is a strong emphasis on climbing, but every part of the human body seems to be taxed in this extremely difficult course. It's easy to sit on your sofa, have another beer and speculate that you could do the obstacles yourself, but don't be fooled. These are some of the greatest athletes in the entire world.
The show is set up like this: Each episode, two contestants from each of six different countries compete for the individual title. For the finale, the winner of each episode faces off in competition for Ultimate Beastmaster.
National Pride
The national pride is probably my favorite thing about the show. It's everything that the world loves about the Olympics. Each competing nation has its own duo of announcers, who are broadcasting locally in their countries. It's great to hear all the different languages and cheering styles. The competition gets pretty intense, but it's clearly a delight for everyone involved. There is no negativity whatsoever, only support.
They just released the second season...
And guess what? They made the course harder. I guess they honed in on the spots that too many people got through easily, and made them impossibly hard. We're talking longer jumps, steeper inclines, faster conveyor belts. Yeah, they've got conveyor belts. It's pretty much real life Mario.
That's my review. Watch this show; you'll like it.
It's downright inspirational to see what people are capable of when placed in a competitive situation that pushes their limits. I'm sure as Ultimate Beastmaster goes on, the course will just get tougher and tougher. But somehow, the people will just keep making the jumps.
The real question is if the show if successful enough, will Sly finally get a good face job. Man, that dude looked better after his Drago fights than he does in real life. lol
