The Sinner: a thriller of mystery that you should watch

in #review7 years ago

The Netflix platform has shown that it really knows how to make good series, because suddenly a new one is released, you start to watch it and you can not stop. They have achieved it with Narcos, Ozark, 13 Reasons Why, Stranger Things and recently, The Sinner.

Created by Derek Simonds, The Sinner has a first season of 8 episodes. With a spectacular cast headed by Jessica Biel, who is also a producer, Christopher Abbott, Dohn Norwood, Abby Miller and Bill Pullman. The story centers on Cora Tannetti (Jessica Biel), a young woman, who seems normal, happily married and with a child. A day at the beach, some young people who are near start to put a song. She goes crazy and starts stabbing one of them. She is quickly arrested and pleads guilty. But policeman Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) does not believe the story and starts investigating. He realizes that his past is very turbulent. So he will try to discover what happened to her so that she would have that behavior change and commit such a violent crime.

Two days ago I started watching this great series and just last night I finished the whole season, that's the Netflix effect: do not stop watching a series when you start watching it. The series focuses on the character of Jessica Biel. At all times the episodes have posed to play with the viewer. Which greatly increases the expectation of what will happen next.

The series is showing us parts of her past, but it is through the investigation of the police that we discover the truth about Cora. Although she does not make it easy since she lies almost every time she speaks. Something that the series really captivates is that it highlights the drama of her husband who has attended astonished the events that have taken her to prison. This character is played by Christopher Abbott.

Without much more details to give and let the reader of this article get excited to see it, The Sinner, was produced (and directed) by Antonio Campos and Derek Simonds, who is behind other outstanding series such as When We Rise and The Astronauts Wives' Club. So you know you're not going to waste your time watching this series. The series is inspired by the book of the same title by the German novelist Petra Hammesfahr, although according to Biel, it is best to watch the series and then read the book. The most interesting thing is that the series has both drama and narrative that will always keep you attentive and with nerves.

The soundtrack is impeccable, because it has all the most outstanding elements thanks to the composition of Ronit Kirchman, who created a special sound palette for the show with electronic sounds that give the series additional layers of emotion and movement thanks to a violin of seven strings, production tools and virtual instruments such as Kontakt, Soniccouture and Vienna Ensemble Pro.

This has been my small critical contribution to The Sinner, now I would like to know your opinion to expand the analysis.

Regards, Antonio.
