8-Bit Adventure Anthology Volume One Features Point and Click Classics

The world of adventure games is a wild one. Especially when you venture into the computer side of the equation where point and click adventures used to battle with text adventures and role-playing games alike. On consoles, it was a different story – text adventures were non-existent and role-playing games only picked up steam as consoles got more powerful. Déjà vu, Uninvited, and Shadowgate all saw release during the 8-Bit console days. That is an important detail to remember.

The 8-Bit Adventure Anthology is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam for computers on October 31st. For those brave enough to venture into the hallowed halls of these games you can expect quite a bit of fun, a few twists, and of course a jump scare or two.

I reviewed Uninvited here on Steemit earlier this month, for those interested in my thoughts on that game. Déjà vu is the only other game in this set that I have put much time into back when it was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I say that because the 8-Bit Adventure Anthology Volume One games appear to be the NES games repackaged for modern platforms. If the price is right, I think this is a great idea.

Abstraction Games are not hiding the fact that they are in the business of porting games from one platform to another so it is not like they are trying to deceive gamers here. They don’t tell you exactly what platform these ports was based on.

As you can see, there are some improvements here. These are not just straight ports which is great for fans that want to support this stuff. Now, I just hope they restore the stuff Nintendo censored. If so, they definitely have a sale with me.

I am not against this type of port. I am all for it because there are a ton of great games that are all but forgotten from gaming’s past. This is a wonderful way to keep the classics alive and well. I would love to see companies licensing fan translations and such too – stuff we never got here in the United States. For now, though, I will take ports of cool games like Uninvited, Déjà vu, and Shadowgate.
