King's Field (PlayStation)
Source: http://megalextoria.blogspot.com/2017/03/kings-field-playstation.html
King's Field is another one of those series of games with confusing numbering. The original King's Filed was released for the PlayStation shortly after its release in Japan in 1994. The original game was never released outside of Japan.
King's Field II was released the following year. This one was also released in North America and Europe but in those places it was just known as King's Field.
King's Field is one of the first Role-Playing Game's of its kind with an open world 3D environment. Arena for PC's comes to mind as another example but this was the early days of this type of game. The Eye of the Beholder series and Dungeon Master are earlier examples but their environments are much more limited in nature.
The King's Field series was very well received but it is known for its difficulty. There were a total of four games in the series with King's Field IV (King's Field: The Ancient City in North America) for the PlayStation 2 being the last one (and only one for the PS2).

The dark souls and elders scrolls of the day would love to play it.
I never played the first two elder scrolls games but I had a friend in college who played Arena and another who played Daggerfall. I'm not sure about Arena but I remember Daggerfall was extremely buggy. One common problem was getting stuck inside walls. It could be frustrating to say the least.
