Commodore Format was a U.K. based magazine dedicated to the Commodore 64. Being first published in 1990, it existed only very late in the Commodore 64's life. The final issue was in October 1995 and it was the last issue of a commercial magazine dedicated to any 8-bit computer to be published in the U.K. Commodore Format emphasized games but had some coverage of other areas as well. The May 1993 issue includes:

Features

  • Let's Make A Monster - The Rowlands' regular coding report has a bonus this month - lots of 'em, in fact, as they refine their game's bonus system. All the latest news on Apex Productions' latest mega-game in the making.

  • The Ultimate Shoot-'Em-Up - Since the dawn of time, or at least the C64, shoot-'em-ups have been thrilling and killing gamesplayers. We take an in-depth look at all the classics and the croakers to see what makes a good killer tick.

Powertested!

  • Arnie 2 - The return of the C64's latest action hero. Is it a blockbuster or a blowout? It was a tough mission but CF had to find out.
  • International Truck Racing - An M25 simulator - without the traffic! A racing simulator - without the fun?!
  • Trolls - How cute can a game get? Are the Euro cuties trying to tack the Mick?
  • Stone Age - Does 1,000,000 BC mean Before Commodore? We dig for archaeological evidence.

Oddly enough, I have PDFs of all Commodore Format issues... and yeah, I recall the last issue (which I never had, but I'm sure I saw it in the shops) being released in 1995; it definitely outlived Zzap!64 (which was rebranded Commodore Force a few issues before its demise). That said, however, I already moved onto the PC by 1994, though I recall some Commodore Amiga magazines being around for a few years after, though I never had an Amiga at the time. Even so, the system had intrigued me for quite a while, and my only experience of the Amiga was with the MOD (music) files, although over the years I did see little bits of Amiga stuff, though it's only really been within the last few years that I've had a chance to play around with them!

I'm currently in the process of picking up PDFs of Amiga magazines as well, so with both the Amiga and C64 magazines, I'll be able to relive history in a sense, and learn more about both platforms as time goes on!
