Interesting that MSX is mentioned on the cover. Too bad that computer never really took off in the United States as there are some really good games for it in Japan.

It just came along too late. By this time the Commodore 64 was dominating the home market, the Apple II the educational market and the PC the business market (and cheap clones were well on the way to taking over everything). Plus there were other competitors such as Atari, Tandy/Radio Shack, and others. The environment in the U.S. was intensely competitive at the time and MSX machines would have had a hard time competing on price or making inroads into those well established markets.

It is kind of ironic that this was a Microsoft standard but is virtually unknown in the U.S.

Yeah, that is what is wild about it. Microsoft created MSX, you would have thought they would have pushed it here in the United States. It could have been their OS series like Apple had. They could have had a closer hold on the hardware it ran on too, though I think that openness is what allowed Windows to spread like it did and is one reason Apple floundered for so long (they still somewhat do in computers).
