in #retro7 years ago

So here are 5 Myths about PC gaming Busted.

5 – Complicated Builds.

While Consoles gamers are safe in the knowledge that there system is ready out of the box. 1 purchase and that is it. Console gamers say that to make a Gaming PC is far too complicated and expensive.
Well yes, PC gaming builds 'can' be expensive for the enthusiast side of things, but they can be as cheep as any console. As to being complicated, well from the outside it may seem that way, there are many parts that make up a custom PC, but everything inside a PC today is pretty much plug and play. One quick you tube search can yield a mountain of buying guides and how to videos. It is no more complicated than setting up you router and home network. PC's today are designed to be simplistic in there design, and this only gets better as the technology progresses.
Besides, you don't really have to go to the trouble of building a custom PC, you can buy ready made ones from the likes of Dell/Alienwere, Lenovo, HP, or have a PC shop build it for you, just like you would when you take your car to get repaired.

4 – PC Gaming is Dying.

I believe that some console gamers can be very arrogant and because they play with hundreds of people in one online server, they think that PC gaming is dying and will soon disappear thanks to the new technology found in consoles.
The simple answer would be, no it isn't dying. The long answer is, it is far from dying, more and more people are porting over to PC from console and Dell/Alienweres own sales report from 2016 compared to Microsoft's Xbox show that PC gaming is outselling consoles 2-1. as for them being a dying bread, well sorry, if you take a closer look at your consoles and their operating systems, they are resembling PC's more and more with each new generation. So in effect, your console is become more like a PC.
PC Gaming is so big that it can fill an entire 50'000 seat stadium for one game competition complete with spectators on a regular basis such as eSports Million Dollar Tournaments, Gamescom, Dbap Gaming and Geek. So if anything, PC gaming is on the rise.

3 – Modding is Bad.

No it isn't. Well it can be if a mod is made specifically to to take advantage of a game glitch, loophole or exploit a bug such as giving yourself and others free money in GTA online. Those types of mods are for the best part, frowned upon by the PC gaming community as a whole.
Other types of mods that make a game harder, add more content or even total conversion mods are a part of what makes PC gaming great. Games such as battlefield 2, dark souls, half life 2, sins of a solar empire, doom, arma2 and 3, Minecraft, homeworld 2, skyrim, quake, portal and so much more, are all games that have built in support for mods and some include Development tools to make those mods.
Most console gamers are just sore because they are unable to mod, and those games that allow it, have very minimal modding support. Where as myself, I enjoy playing in some intense online sins of a solar empire with either a star trek or star wars mod with some of my friends. Some specific mods even have dedicated servers, such as GTA San Andreas which allows you to play with up to 35 people in one server.
And I have to mention the Redux Mod for GTAV, which just enhances all the textures and shaders to make it look so much more realistic. Sorry consolers, should of bought a PC.

2 – PC Master Race.

Yes, there are always going to be the select few who are arrogant and shout abuse down a microphone to noobs and think they are part of the master race. As for the rest of us, it is a different story.
PC gamers on the whole are all polite and always eager to help. Just take a look on the countless forums, Blogs and YouTube, and you will find PC gamers are always helping each other out. Helping to solve in game issues, instillation problems, hardware information, benchmarking. They are all there to help those of you who may have a problem that you can not fix by yourself.
There are always going to be a bad apple but the same can be said about console gamers, those select few that think they are part of the master race. So to say we are all arrogant, is simply not true. Most of us PC gamers simply don't care if you play on a console.

1 – High FPS is Pointless.

This myth stems from old cinema that ran at 24 – 30 frames per second. And the myth goes. 'the eyes cant see any more than 30 frames per second'. Again, another false myth based on history not fact.
With new monitors being released that can play up to 240 FPS, then the argument maybe relative. But the human eye can depict a lot more than most people think. This Blog Post on PCGamer.com goes into high detail about what the human eye can see which says at one point, that the human eye could see up to 500 FPS if it wanted too.
With many blog and YouTube posts about side by side comparisons between frame rates, nearly 100% can tell the difference. A Higher frame rate yields a smother picture and bring it closer to being more life like. This is the main reason why PC gamers want such a high frame rate, because it improves the overall experience of the game and make it so much more enjoyable to immerser yourself further into the game.
Consoles such as the new Xbox one X and the PS4 Pro can both now render games in 4k and at 60FPS. So if we cant see beyond 30, why are Microsoft, Sony, You-tube, Vevo and now Nintendo spending millions on research to show and get a higher frame rate?

The arguments and myths from both sides of the gaming community will not go away any time soon, they both have there advantages and disadvantages, just don't be a dick about it OK.
