5 Nintendo Entertainment System Facts that You May Not Know - Gaming Top 5 - Part 49.
The NES is probably 'the' most iconic Video Games Console to ever be relesed.
There were many home video game consoles that came before the NES, But it was the Nintendo Entertainment System that kick started the Console craze in the mid 80's, right at a time when the gaming industry was crashing and no one wanted to entertain the idea of having another console.
So here are 5 NES Facts that you may not know about that little Grey & White box of Joy.
5 – Multiple Endings.
Castlevania II was the very first game ever to have multiple endings to a game.
The game featured 3 different endings that depended on how much time it took you to complete the game, how many times you died and had to press continue.
The endings were the same but with a different twist to each one. If you completed the game in under 7 days or less, you would see the good ending. If it took you 8-14 days to complete, you would see the normal ending. And if you finished the game in over 15 days, you would see the bad endings.
The game rewarded those gamers who were faster than the others by letting them see the good ending. So when you see games today that have different / multiple endings, you can thank the NES and Castlevania II for that.

4 – Rock Gods!
There is a Japanese only title for the NES called Holy Diver where you get to play as the legendary Metal guitarist Randy Rhoads. Being a metal guitarist and a huge fan of the Metal music genre, of course I have a copy of this game.
In the game, your farther is the rock god Ronnie James Dio. Enough said. Your mentor and guide in the game is non other than Mr Ozzy Osbourne, and in the games climax, you get fused with your brother Zakk Wylde to create an uber Guitar God.
This is very much a real, playable game that is actually fantastic to play. It never made it to the western market because reasons... no one actually knows why, but there is an English translated version available as a ROM that is playable on an NES emulator. And trust me when I say this. It is really good. It has loads of boss battles, very challenging to play, and there is a Famicom version too. Try to think of it as a 2D version of Brutal Legend.

3 – Good Customer Service.
Nintendo were so dedicated to keeping the NES running for its customers, that its customer helpline service and repair shop ran for over 24 years.
The NES ''Powerline to the Pros'' customer service was closed in 2007 because it ran out of available parts. Now think about that for a second. Today, if your original Xbox or PS1 stopped working and needed to be repaired, there is no one you can call to get that done as both Sony and Microsoft wont repair consoles older than 7-10 years and will more than likely run out of parts long before then.
24 years Nintendo had a dedicated helpline to keep the old NES running. Lets hope they do the same with the Switch.

2 – Smart TV.
Today, most TV's have built in features that allow you to do everything from watch Netflix, browse the web and even play a few games. Before any of that happened though, a company called Sharp made a 14” (yes they were that small back in the day), TV with a built in NES that was released in 1983 in Japan, (Famicom version) and 1989 in the US. It was the first TV ever to have a games console built into it.
It only had a limited run, but the Sharp Nintendo Television, or C1, was developed by both companies to provide customers with an all in one solution for those that needed a TV as well as a console.
Instead of having to plug the audio and video connections to a normal TV, you simply pushed a button to power the system on as it was all internally connected. It was praised for having a slightly clearer picture than the standard console setup as there was a native RGB connection already made, and no RF modulator that degraded the signal from the console.

1 – Shoot that Damn Dog.
When the NES was shipped out, it usually came with a light gun and a multicart game of Mario and Duck hunt.
That light gun was viewed by kids everywhere as magic. How in the hell did it know where you were aiming? Well when you look at it, it is very simple how it worked. It worked by detecting flashes of light on the TV screen. When you pulled the trigger on the light gun, the game would play a single frame of all black, followed by a second blank frame but with a block of white where the target was, and using some software trickery, the game would figure out where you were aiming based on that.
The problem now though, as technology has improved, the light gun will not work on a flat screen TV, it had to be a CRT TV in order for this to work.
I just wished that the game would pick up me shooting that dog. Every time I missed it would pop its head up and bloody laugh at me the arsehole. I hate that dog. I wish I could of shot it.

The NES is an icon and routed in pop culture today as such, and is highly collectable. Nintendo recognised this little fact among the fans, and so they ended up releasing a NES mini that looks just like the original, but much smaller and has quite a few preloaded games on it. Including the then unreleased StarFox 2.

Nice list. I always considered Metroid to be the first game with multiple endings. Maybe Castlevania 2 came out first.
by a full year no less.
