An organic following is Very important on the platform. Anyone could have hundreds of bots up voting their posts. But bots cannot give feedback.....

Take your camera and take pics and evaluate it and write about what you see try tour etc ... spread your mind to all kinds of possibilties and apply it your posts. I really liked the explanation on having an organic following because it can mean the difference between having a channel that can thrive and even become the face of a new platform or having a dying channel that has loads of followers that won't check what you post.
I also liked how you were planning to diversify what you post to reach out to larger demographics I think that will allow you to set yourself up to be a fixture before new users come on the platform.

People follow on Steemit for like content and interest. Takes a min. to start getting views and using resteem bots to get in front of a few more eyes are better than using upvote and comment bot. But once you get a nice following you've got to keep them, keep up the work homie.
