Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
An eye for an eye.
Have you ever wondered where the saying came from – The eyes are the windows of the soul.
I know that science once believed that photographing a corpse’s retina could give the last image seen by the eye while it still lived. The process is called Optography and has been used a number of times – to little success, I’m sure.
The theory extended to the Will Smith movie: Wild Wild West – the Steempunk extravaganza.
I found the same theory as I researched Jack The Ripper facts, autopsy reports, police reports and court transcripts for my second novel – Cruel and Unusual.
Photographs were taken of the retinas of victims in the hope that an image of their killer could be revealed.
Eyes have always captured the imagination.
You can have a bird’s (or a worm’s) eye-view, eagle eyes, green-eyed monster, a roving eye.
You can be the apple of someone’s eye, a sight for sore eyes, and an eye-popper.
You can give someone the stink-eye, the glad-eye or the goo-goo eyes.
Then you can have eagle eyes, eyes bigger than your belly, mud in your eye and in the mind’s eye.
Then keeping a weather eye on the eye of the hurricane or storm, making eyes at someone while keeping your eyes peeled, there could be more to this than meets the eye and you may not believe your eyes, but at the end of the day, taking your eye off the ball may lead to some well-deserved shut-eye and you can turn a blind eye to something that’s happening right before your eyes.
