Marley, the dog that found us.

in #rescue6 years ago

Coming home from the sunday market, i noticed i had a odd shaped shadow - This sweet soul followed us home yesterday, practically crawling, he was so dehydrated, we carried him up the 4 flights of stairs (as he couldn't walk) to the flat where we gave him water and 2 big bowls of pellets and a bath, some socialising at a braai (where he also got some sneaky sausage) and a soft bed for the night, today i am trying to find a home for him, or he will fetched by TEARS, given two weeks to be homed and then PTS as they are crazy full and just cannot give the dogs much time. He didn't even react to my cats, we took him to the communal braai area where he ran and jumped and played nicely with the little kids so he is great with cats and kids. I only found one tick on him and his coat is soft and i don't see any mange, if anything his padding on his paws needs some TLC (as one can imagine, they are a bit raw form running in hot sun on the tar for goodness knows how long) I have a strong feeling this was a family dog once upon a time and was perhaps stolen by one of the car guards who work at the sunday markets, this doggy is so loyal but i think he knew if he didn't eventually leave that person, he wouldn't make it much longer. He listens and follows, he doesn't like sticks (i'm sure we all know why that may be) and cowers down when i tried to throw one for him to fetch, he sniffled at a tennis ball a bit - He has the softest, most gentle soul i have seen in very long time in a dog and i see his hurt in his eyes but he has hope there is still a loving home for him in this world and i see that in his eyes too. If i had a garden, no matter how small, id keep him, i have not got a lot of money and don't even have a car but those aren't the only means to helping change a animals life, those are bullcrap excuses, cause i cant change the world by saving an animal, but i can change that animals world and dont need thousands or a car to do it. I will keep him tonight, long as the person can afford to have him sterilized and given any medical treatment that may be necessary in the long run and knows the dos and don'ts of dogging, and has sufficient space and isn't going to be left alone all day - He is very clean though for a street dweller and he hasn't barked once since i brought him home, not at a cat, a kid, a sea gull, nothing. Having him checked for a chip tomorrow and getting his paws some treatment, he has also been diagnosed with very bad tic bite fever and so that needs to be treated and he will be monitored for a week or so by the animal welfare organisation, then i will foster him for another night or 2 and then he will have a home sooner than soon. He WILL! I will make sure of it - There IS a place for you in this world, my sweet boy, Marley 🐕♥️ Thank you to the group of amazing people who networked this doggy and put feelers out for me, Anti Animal Trafficking CT, Thank you to Caitlin Elle Orgill for spreading the word and ultimately sealing the deal with a forever home with a friend of yours, to Julian Hogg for being the carrier, runner, jumped, fetcher, bringer and over all GREAT foster dad you have been, lying on the kitchen floor with him until he dozed off and checking that he is still breathing, even getting down and dirty with scrubbing a strange dogs bum and bits in the bathtub. And to Priyah Singh and Jarrod for sacrificing your fluffy red blanket that was meant for the humans at the braai which ended up being the doggy blanky for the night 😂🤗 Thank you also to the careless asshole who mistreated or neglected or lost this loyal friend - had it not been for your shitty shittyness, i may never have crossed paths with this wonderful soul. This dog knows what love feels like now, no doubt in my mind 😊🐾 See you soon Marley-boy, the beach is waiting for us :)
