I am in agreement on the "reputation" question being answered on Steemit, well.
However I do not think "reputation" is the word descriptor that best suites the situation. For me "contributor" is more the essence of this number.
Contribution can take various forms. For instance, @laonie is - as far as I know - one of the biggest investors in Steemit, with 4000BTC. That's contribution. But there are also other types of contrubtions: @svk, @jesta and @good-karma they are all contributing software and various tools to the platform. Reputation is not necessarily the same for all, though. Contribution is somehow included in reputation, but it does not supersede it. IMHO.
