In First let us illuminate the Definition.
In the literature there is as yet no economic scientific definition of reputation. According to Schwalbach, there is a common idea, but no general definition. [2]
In economics, reputation is understood to be an intertemporal, self-imposed incentive structure based on specific information requirements. [3] The economic concept of reputation is thus a special variant of a relational contract and is often formally analyzed by the play theory, namely as a repeated game with incomplete information. [4] Reputation has past-oriented and future-oriented elements: The person or institution that wants to invest in a positive reputation (or "invest in" it) will carry out an action to influence the expectations of the addressee in his own sense (future orientation). It does not necessarily have to be a "positive" reputation, like the reputation for quality or competence, but it can also be negatively oriented. For example, in a criminal milieu, it is often a matter of acquiring a reputation for aggressiveness, harshness and recklessness because these are beneficial factors of power. For the addressees of reputation, the action should be observable and as clear as possible. The target group interprets the observed behavior (past orientation) and, assuming the observed action was convincing, forms the corresponding expectations of reputations.
