A lot of people staying on the grid after installing solar, do so because of regulations that require them to stay connected. In many areas, if you try to fully disconnect from the grid, they will fine you and in at least one case the government declared their home condemned.
Amazing. In Indiana, Amish will move into a house and completely take all the electrical wiring out of it. If they ever move out, big problems with selling it.
It is amazing how much laws vary from place to place. The Amish probably can do it because of religious rights, so it might be different for other people trying to do similar. But it is hard to know what the actual laws are there. Governments are their own special breed. lol
