Turning it All Off
I love location independent work. I'm a super big fan of it. You probably knew that. And, really, if you're on here, you probably are too. There's so much to love about it. It's so nice to spend time with my kids and really be a part of their lives. It's so nice to be able to work from my beautiful little spot by the sea in the jungle or to travel and work from wherever.
One of the biggest challenges, though, is turning it off. Sometimes I feel like I'm working all day long. Of course I get to stop to make lunch or play a game with the kids. I stop to clean. I stop for a 20 minute meditation. And then I keep going into the night. Right now it's 9:00, and my kids are acting like Tasmanian devils, but here I am typing away. I mean, I'm not so sure Steemit is work exactly when I'm making less than a dollar a day, but we have to build it up, right?
That's another piece. When you're building a business, it's hard to define what work even is. Honestly, social media is a part of work, but my posts about why Trump is such a sack of shit or how cute your kids are? Those probably aren't work unless I am just so damn charming you decide to go solar. That said, it still feels like "on" mode. We gotta make sure there's an "off" mode.
The girl with the butterfly is on here now starting remote work at 15! Follow @sophieharling
I'm talking about this right now because I have been go, go, going for a good while now. We've been trying to catch up on bills, and Halloween is a big deal for our clan (did I mention I sewed 2500 fucking sequins?). Now we are almost caught up. Of course we need to start getting ready for Christmas spending, but I don't feel super pressured right now. So I'm starting to remember to bring a little balance back. A little time floating in the river or swimming in the sea, playing with the kids, reading, or (gasp!) doing nothing is important for keeping my remote work and business more sustainable for me.
2500 fucking sequins, but I'm pretty sure this is off mode
What about you? Is it hard or easy to turn it off? What does turning it off look like?
Hello mama,
This is something I struggle with as well. From the moment I wake up, chores and errands need to be done, homework, blogging, and anything else I deem important needs to happen. I'm often told by friends that I need to relax more, and hopefully by surrounding myself with things I love I can take breaks more often and enjoy the time, not worry about every little thing.
It's hard, but likely because I feel a sense of urgency and that I'm behind. Cleaning at hone really helps for now and doesn't feel too much like work, but I need to unwind more.
The goal is to organize myself better so that I do feel okay enough to let go a little bit.
With love,
@shello
I agree that cleanliness and order is key. I just can't relax when it's really messy or dirty. I tolerate a certain amount because I have little kids, but if it gets bad, I have to deal with it. I also need to feel a little more financial stability before I can let go. That said, I'm off to play chutes and ladders.
Good aftenoon @solarsupermama,
Work mama and play mama, I see what you mean now. I find that trying to do a little everyday helps a ton. Can't get everything perfect. I have a long way to go before even considering to have children myself.
I hope you've had a wonderful day!
Thank you,
<3 @shello
It really does. Perfect isn't even on the menu. Children are lucky they add so much love. Otherwise they wouldn't be worth it! 😂 Today has been pretty good. Busy, but good. Hope your day was awesome too.
