Remembrance Day
Back in the early 2000s I decided the local government were abusing the powers they had (long story, wrong time, maybe later, k?)
I took it upon myself to enquire about the fact and I came across a determined and driven young man (my friend's cousin) and she introduced us. "Shell would make a good councillor," she said to her cousin.
From Google free to use images - Nottinghamshire election map after the election where I won my seat.
I worked for a year before the elections and, with the help and support of my family and the help and support of Jason (my friend's cousin) I ousted the incumbent party and became County Councillor. That's quite a big deal, one step down from MP and my local party members started calling me the Spanish Inquisition - because nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition...
So with the intention of changing the world in a fortnight, I went into the fray!
I did quite a lot of good things in those four years, but one of the best was to donate £5000 and persuade Jason to donate £5000 to The Friends Of Ashfield War Memorials.
Trev and I became members of the society and we had a hand in designing a war memorial to commemorate all souls lost in acts of war. We decided to include nurses, firemen, merchant seamen etc because no other memorial does that.
On June 11th 2011 the opening ceremony was held. Jason and I were invited to join the march to the memorial.
Trev and I are named on the plaque as members of the society.
I am also named on this one as one of the Councillors that helped to make the memorial possible.
The land was donated by the local council. Pepper Gardens does seem apt.
One of the proudest days was when our children were both chosen to stand on the corner of the cenotaph in our town. Another exceptionally proud day was when I was invited to take the salute.
We went to the memorial today and I have to say, I was delighted that the memorial was being used to lay wreaths and poppies at.

They might be in the past, but what they did were for us today and tommorow.
Yes, exactly.
This is a beautiful memorial to all those fallen. I think all our heroes should be recognised for the sacrifices they have made on our behalf. Kudos @michelle.gent for a job well done.
Thank you. This was indeed a joint effort and a lot of hard work went into it all. I was in the happy and fortunate position of being able to have a fund from which I could donate money and I was pleased and honoured to do so.
great publication, very interesting has my vote, greetings.
